Defense Seeking a Retrial in Flugsvamp 2 Case

The administrator of Flugsvamp 2.0 is seeking a retrial after being sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.
After a district court acquitted him, the Svea Court of Appeal sentenced the 30-year-old to 11 years and eight months in prison for running the Swedish darknet market “Flugsvamp 2.0.” His defense attorney, Thomas Bodström, has criticized how the trial was conducted and sent a lengthy justification for a retrial to the Supreme Court.
The lawyer wrote that his client had not prepared his defense correctly. Additionally, he noted that the Court of Appeal had allowed prosecutors to change the evidence repeatedly while preventing the defense from accessing information related to the investigation.
“A more unfair verdict has never been seen in Sweden,” Thomas Bodström told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
The lawyer has requested that the “entire hearing should therefore be repeated in the Court of Appeal.” In the justification, the lawyer cited a legal report from a criminal law professor stating the “case should never have been prosecuted in the first place.”
The case marks the first time Swedish prosecutors have successfully prosecuted the administrator of an internet-based drug trafficking site.
It is unknown when the Supreme Court will make a decision about the appeal.
