Two Drug Dealers in Liverpool Ordered to Forfeit 119,000

A Liverpool court ordered two drug dealers to pay the government more than £119,000 as a part of their sentences.
A couple living in Liverpool who purchased and sold large quantities of drugs on the darkweb must pay back more than £119,000 ($165,231) of the money earned through drug distribution.
The couple, Anthony Reid and Zadia Salami, were recently sentenced to a total of 15 years and six months in prison for conspiring in the importation and distribution of Class A drugs. According to information revealed in court, the couple purchased large quantities of drugs on the darkweb to resell.
Andrew Ford, the prosecutor, told Liverpool Crown Court:
“[Reid] used the internet, specifically the dark web to trade drugs of Class A and Class B. These were paid for in the crypto currency, bitcoin and there were two email addresses which could be used to trade in the currency. His supply network allowed for an expansive and nationwide trade in these substances. He stood at the heart of the importations.”
The investigation that led to the couple’s conviction began after Border Force officers intercepted a suspicious package shipped from Belgium and addressed to Reid. The officers found a kilogram of methamphetamine in the package.
Officers from the North West Regional Crime Unit consequently executed a search warrant on Reid’s residence. The search resulted in the seizure of large quantities of methamphetamine and computers. At the end of the search, officers arrested Reid and Salami.
Reid was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to Import and conspiracy to supply Class A Drugs in December 2019. Salami was sentenced to three years and six months in prison after being found guilty of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
After the sentencing, the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit launched an investigation into the couple’s finances.
During the proceeds of crime hearing at the Liverpool Crown Court, the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit disclosed that the couple had earned more than £600,000 ($833,067) through their darkweb drug trafficking operation.
The court ordered Reid to “pay back” more than £113,900. He was also ordered to pay the money within three months or have 15 more months added to his sentence. Salami was ordered to forfeit assets worth £5,000.
