SK Police Arrest 500 for Alleged Darkweb Drug Transactions

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency apprehended more than 500 people suspected of buying or selling drugs on the darkweb.
A press release by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency disclosed that the police in Seoul had investigated 521 suspects suspected of engaging in drug trafficking activity via the darkweb. The suspects allegedly bought or sold cannabis, methamphetamine, cocaine, and ketamine, among others.

Police allege that 49 of the suspects either grew cannabis in Korea or imported drugs from elsewhere and then distributed them through the darkweb. The other 472 allegedly purchased drugs from darkweb vendors. Most of the suspects are between 20 and 30 years old.
The police arrested all of the suspects and detained 13 of them. The arrests resulted in the seizure of drugs worth more than $9.8 million, including 63.5 kg of cannabis, 316 cannabis plants, 33 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of cocaine, and 30 grams of ketamine. The investigators also seized cryptocurrencies worth more than $521,000.

The press release also said that South Korea’s Dark Web and Virtual Asset Special Investigation Team has been investigating suspects of darkweb drug trafficking since August 2020.
