LKA Berlin Raids 15 Houses in ‘Child Porn’ Bust

An announcement from Berlin’s Criminal Police Office revealed that more than 80 officers participated in a wide-scale raid in search of several individuals suspected of downloading child abuse content. They also searched the properties for any electronic devices and 150 cellphones, laptops, and other devices. They searched 15 houses. In addition to the announcement, the Berlin LKA released a somewhat ominous tweet (for those involved in child pornography and related crimes).

How the Feds Caught Matthew Yensan in Two Months

Matthew Yensan, an alprazolam vendor from Raleigh, North Carolina, just received a 78-month prison sentence for distributing producing alprazolam and selling it on the darknet, dealing with the proceeds of a crime, and having several firearms while committing said crime. The DEA’s investigation into the 25-year-old involved some bizarre characters in unrelated court cases, weird neighbors, and a handful of unknowns.

BKA: Fighting Darknet Child Abuse Forums

Matthias Wenz, Deputy Head of a unit of the German Federal Police dedicated to crimes against children, talked about the current state of child abuse on the clearnet and darknet. He spoke about the limitations in child pornography investigations, the victims of these crimes, and the changes needed in punishing child pornography law violations. He said some things likely overlooked by the general public and controversial to others: He questioned the use of investigative techniques employed in the operations that brought down Playpen, The Love Zone, and Childs Play.

Alphabay Vendor EtiKing Sentenced to Life in Prison

EtiKing, an Alphabay vendor known for selling Etizolam, received a life sentence in late April for distributing a fentanyl analogue that resulted in the fatal overdose of at least one customer. EtiKing aka Jeremy Achey will serve a life sentence in a federal prison for conspiracy to distribute and distribution of controlled substances.

Chicago Woman Hired a Hitman on the Darknet

A Chicago woman has been charged for allegedly hiring a hitman on the darknet to kill the wife of a man with whom she had an affair. Like many of the darknet “murder-for-hire” cases, the police received a tip from a fake hitman third party that sparked an investigation in early April 2018.
