Fediverse for shitpoasters

About Poast

Poast is a way to join the Fediverse, to be part of a community, and escape the Big Tech™ stranglehold on public discourse.

What is Fediverse?

The Fediverse (a portmanteau of “federation” and “universe”) is an ensemble of federated (i.e. interconnected) servers that are used for web publishing (i.e. social networking, microblogging, blogging, or websites) and file hosting, but which, while independently hosted, can communicate with each other. On different servers (instances), users can create so-called identities. These identities are able to communicate over the boundaries of the instances because the software running on the servers supports one or more communication protocols which follow an open standard. As an identity on the fediverse, users are able to post text and other media, or to follow posts by other identities. In some cases (such as on Poast), users can even show or share data (video, audio, text, and other files) publicly or to a selected group of identities and allow other identities to edit other users’ data (such as a calendar or an address book).

We actively encourage anyone interested in joining Poast consider hosting their own instance for themselves and their friends to ensure the health of the fediverse as a whole. A super easy way to get started hosting your own is available at fediverse.express for a small monthly fee or you can submit a request to cofespace for a free single-user instance!

Terms of Service

By using this web site, you agree to these Terms of Use, to our Copyright Policy, and to our Privacy Policy.

Our Terms of Use are simple:

  • This is our web site, and we will do as we please with it. If you don’t like how we run our site, you are free to set up your own.
  • You grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, world-wide, irrevocable, no-charge, royalty-free copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute content you post here.
  • We do not promise to preserve anyone’s content for any particular length of time. If you want to preserve content (whether your own or someone else’s) from this web site, you should download your own copy of that content.
  • You are liable for everything you post. We do not filter or block other instances that do not post illegal content (see below), many of whom post inflammatory comments, pornography and other obscene materials and as such we require you to be 18 years of age or older at signup. If you are not 18 years of age, there are other instances on the Fediverse that cater to younger audiences.

Site rules

  1. Do not post anything that would be classified as illegal in the United States.
  2. Do not post or request personal information or personally-identifying information (“dox”), whether it is “publicly available” or not.
  3. Do not “fedpost”. This is defined as explicitly violent and possibly credible threats against groups or entities that the US government would classify as “protected”. What constitutes being credible is left up to the discretion of the moderation team. Context will be taken into consideration.
  4. Spam of any kind involving posting, deleting, frivolous reports, etc. will not be tolerated.
  5. Continually harassing and dogpiling users from other instances, or purposely setting out to have other instances mute or block poa.st from federation by repeatedly harassing their users or spamming, will not be tolerated. Your account will be limited or deactivated.
  6. Do not use multiple accounts to circumvent people blocking you or to evade bans, silences or other moderation measures.
  7. Mark your account as a bot if the majority of posting will be automated.
  8. We do not allow accounts that are solely used to advertise a product or service.
  9. Keep your profile’s avatar and header image “safe for work”, since Pleroma doesn’t provide the ability to mark these images as sensitive.
  10. It is recommended that you mark your post as sensitive when posting media with excessive blood or gore.
  11. Posting pornography is allowed under the following restrictions:
  • All pornographic images must be marked sensitive when posting.
  • When posting legal performers that look underage (“jailbait”), please make sure to put their name down in the post.
  • When posting drawn or computer generated pornography, do not mention character ages (if they are under 18) or hint that they are underage.
  • Extreme (obscene) material that a vast majority would find distasteful is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: realistic 3D depictions of children, toddlercon, bestiality, and scat.
Please be advised imagery or any media that is deemed to be pedophilic in nature will be reported to The International Center for Missing & Exploited Children (ICEMC) Child Exploitation reporting site.* Protip: when in doubt, don’t post it.
  1. Do not explicity support the MAP or other pedophilic communities. Acting like you molest children, even ironically, will be subject to post deletion.

Repeated violations of any of the above rules may result in a ban at our discretion.

What won’t get you banned:

  • Hurting someone’s feelings.
  • Unpopular opinions voiced respectfully.
  • Anything that can be solved by a personal block.
  • Cursing.
  • Lewd jokes.

Instance-specific Policies

We typically try not to suspend any instance. When joining poa.st, please understand that there are thousands of instances on the fediverse, and we cannot police content on other instances. However, we can choose to restrict outside users/instances from communicating with us for whatever reason we see fit.

TOR Access

Poast blocks incoming connections from TOR exit nodes over clearnet, we are however available over The Onion Router at the following address

Poast over Ethereum DNS

Poast is the first ever federated instance to be accessable over the blockchain compliant, censorship-free domain name service ENSdomans! This domain registration prevents third parties from seizing control of your domains by putting control directly into your crypto wallet, preventing any malicious actor from manipulating your domain.

You can access ENSdomains by using Opera (native support for IPFS sites so far) or using a plugin called MetaMask, a third party wallet that supports DNS resolution with the ENS service. With MetaMask installed, you can simply visit the below URL which will take you to our TOR hidden service address to access Poast

poast.eth/ - keep in mind the trailing slash is required so MetaMask knows you are looking to resolve an ENSdomain!
